This afternoon, explore the UNESCO-listed rock fortress city of Sigiriya. Ascend more than a thousand stairs to reach the summit, admiring colourful frescoes along the way.

Drive south to Kandy this morning, visiting the Matale spice gardens en route. Set on the shores of a beautiful manmade lake, Kandy was once the capital of the last Sinhalese kingdom. Visit Sri Lanka’s holiest site, the Temple of the Tooth,said to contain the tooth relic of Buddha. Enjoy a cultural performance this evening and stay overnight in Kandy.

Travel to Nuwara Eliya, visiting a tea plantation en route. Often referred to as ‘Little England’, Nuwara Eliya is a hill country town characterised by its colonial-era bungalows and well-kept gardens. The town sits at more than 2,500 metres above sea level, surrounded by mist-wreathed mountains covered in forests and tea cultivations. Overnight in Nuwara Eliya.

Make your way to Yala National Park, on Sri Lanka’s southeast coast. Yala encompasses a range of ecosystems, from dense jungleand arid grasslands, to beaches and freshwater lakes. Check in to your hotel for an overnight stay.

Embark on a Jeep safari this morning. Wildlife you may spot includes elephants, sloth bears, leopards,Hanuman langurs, crocodiles and numerous migratory birds. Later today, check out and make your way to an Ayurveda resort in Wadduwa.
